Description
Ceramic bird whistle from the community of Pisac, Peru. Each instrument creates a bird song by simply adding water inside the whistle and gently blowing the mouthpiece. This colorful green whistle represents an owl. Earthenware whistling vessels were produced by the ancient civilizations of the Andes and it is thought they were used in spiritual ceremonies to encourage a meditative state. These contemporary versions of the past create a bird song and the tone can be altered by the amount of water added into the vessel.
